Tips to Manage Morning Sickness

For some women, morning sickness can be the first symptom that alerts them to the possibility that they might be pregnant, especially if they haven’t watched the calendar and didn’t notice a late period.

Any tips for managing ‘morning’ sickness….?
…that lasts all day and all night. I am going ot the doctor next week and will get a script for something but has anyone got any tips to manage it without medication? I am trying to eat to stay on top of it but by the end of the day I don’t have the energy to manage even that. I’m 6 weeks.

I was sick all day and all night, like you… throwing up 10 times a day, give or take…. and honestly, nothing helped. I tried crackers and gingerale, I tried eating small meals, big meals… I tried eating laying down and while moving around… Nothing helped until I got on the medication. I was on Diclectin — WONDERFUL STUFF. The day I started taking it was the last day that I threw up. :)

Ugh I had morning sickness for 3 months straight with my son. Well all day sickness. I was addicted to subway and tums. Don’t drink ice water… it can cause heartburn and make you sick to your stomach even more. Milk can help. Crackers help. Don’t let yourself get dehydrated. Water thats room temp. can help. Suckers can help. Stay away from spicy food or anything that contains a lot of citrus. Stay by an open window as much as you can since certain smells can make you wanna puke. Try falling asleep kinda sitting up and see if it helps. They make these suckers at Motherhood Maternity that are supposed to help… I’ve never tried them so I have no idea though I always wonder when I walk by them. Your Dr. can prescribe some medication that should help you as well. Get lots of rest… I wish you the best…

I would advise that you do get some medication as it really works well, but untill then try sucking on ice cubes for hydration if you cannot take fluids and also ginger (ginger beer, ginger bicuits, ginger sweets, ginger tablets etc) is a ver effective natural anti – sickness aid.
Also travel sickness bands – the kind you wear on your wrist with a little button on that presses your wrist are very good at stopping nausea.

I had morning sickness from about 6 weeks to 16 weeks, it was awful, i tried ginger biscuits, but it didnt work, made me feel worse! i put up with im afraid, it doesnt last forever, it just seems like it at the time! try not to be around any smells that make it worse- i couldnt stand cigarette smoke, (my husbands family smokes and we were living there for a while), and try having small nibbles of food instead of large amounts, as that can make it worse.

I had severe morning sickness with my last child, nothing would stay down. I lost 13 pounds in the first 1 1/2 months and got very dehydrated because I couldn’t keep down any type of fluids. My doctor suggested chips instead of crackers, the chips stayed down a lot better and let me keep down the water/fluids easier.

Try keeping an airtight container with plain biscuits (cracker style or milk arrowroot or ginger nut. Ginger has been known to help nausea. Try and find out what suits you. If worst in the morning keep by your bed.

Keep a water bottle or container by your bed.

As I said, ginger can help nausea. Some can deal with straight ginger, but some find ginger flavoured stuff like ginger flavoured soft drink or ginger beer or ginger nut (ginger biscuit) suits just as well.

Oh man, I feel your pain! So sorry to hear your morning sickness is soooo bad. I had bad morning sickness too. Here’s what helped me.

Eating ginger or ginger candy’s. If you can find real ginger ale (not the canadian dry stuff) sip on that.

Try and sip on water throughout the day BETWEEN meals, not with them

Eat small meals several time a day if you can

The smell of lemons/limes helped me

Keep crackers by your bed; try and eat them if you can before you get up and before you go to bed.

I know its hard to eat sometimes; I was never hungry. But then NOT eating made me feel worse. Try to keep something down, but if you can’t you can’t. Crackers were good but then I got sick of them. So if you see something that looks good, go for it.

    Try and eat SLOWLY

If you have an aversion to something, don’t eat it. Otherwise you’ll never be able to eat it again.

I hate to say it, I tried to sleep as much as possible so I wouldn’t have to feel so miserable. That helped me survive the first trimester.

I was losing so much weight the doc put me on prescription vitamin B and unisom; sometimes it helps. You can ask your doctor about something similar if you want.

    Hope you feel better!
